A couple of Dutch artists have been working since 2006 to bring “outrageous works of art to unexpected places.” Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn recently completed their third Brazilian favela project, hiring and training locals as painters in Rio de Janeiro. Find out more at favela painting.

Tom, I really enjoyed visiting your website tonight. Thanks for the Facebook “Friday Food Trucks” share.
The Favela Art Project(s) is a very positive creative activity for the people living in the communities–Gives the people hope, pride, and is a tremendous educational opportunity for teaching and learning about art(s), and giving hopeless ghetto kids an opportunity to create as real artisans, then live in their “new” artistic creations. 🙂
The people develop pride with media coverage and public interest & support; where before there were only dingy walls to harbor idle young minds & their families–just going thru the essential paces of everyday life in a large city slum. Now, when looking upon their homes and community, the people have a sense of being unique individuals living in a unique artistic environment, and seeing glorious COLORS & LIFE! 🙂
Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Thanks, Jackie.
It will be an interesting project to follow. They had pretty ambitious visions!
